Oh Boy...

So I don't have a lot of time to elaborate and/or discuss. Here's some food for thought though.

"But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such 'wisdom' does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, or the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice."
~James 3: 14-16

I'm no economist, nor am I a historian; but isn't capitalism (especially laisse-faire capitalism) reliant upon competition, viz. selfish ambition (and most likely envy)?

Ouch, America. Ouch.

No, I'm NOT socialist.

I feel the difference lies in the indisputable historical fact that you and me and a plethora of our friends would be 'dangerous material' to the forces overseas that fly the Red flag or a pseudo-Red mask. An attempt at Capitalism remains the only way by which a Virtue of Selfishness can be acceptable. If you lived in China, your chances of being as well-educated as you are now are significantly less. Your knowledge of God would be just as diminished.

I agree, joel, that America does allow for a knowledge of God which does not always exist in other countries, however, our education system is not nearly as developed as that of China or really any other first world country to speak of. Also, I agree that our attempt at Capitalism is an effort to make acceptable a way of life which comes naturally for humans, but it is definitely not the only way we could be doing things and it absolutely does not make it okay to be selfish or envious. Even non-christian Americans will not deny the fact that in their moral core, they know it is wrong to knock others down as you try to reach for the top...or do any multitude of other things that completely ignore the health, happiness, and well-being of other members of American society.
